Go Hogs!

Okay, so it's not exactly a Razorback, but just take a look at what was nosing around in my front yard when I went home for lunch today:

I really like all the wildlife (even if some of it isn't particularly wild) that's around my place. Personally, I think that this guy has a lot more potential for a good meal than a couple of guinea hens, but that's just me.

That's an awesome looking hog! So was it just an escapee from a local farm?

I don't know for sure. He trotted off to the neighbors yard when I pulled up, and when I came out after lunch he was gone. I haven't asked around yet.

I lot of the people around here devote a few acres to farm animals. Mostly horses, donkeys, goats, various poultry, and the odd cow. I haven't seen any pigs around, but I suspect that somebody must raise them. I'm pretty sure that it wasn't feral.

It looks awfully fat and smooth for a feral pig... the ones I've seen have been much hairier and meaner looking. Or maybe those were second generation ferals, and this guy has just recently tasted sweet sweet freedom.

Either way, there's more than a few pounds of bacon for you there. :)

Ya know, even though I suspect the pig is a lot more dangerous, I'd still rather deal with a huge semi-domesticated, bad-tempered pig than with a spider. How sad is that?
